Një studim i institutit te shëndetit publik ka arritur ne konkluzionin se një shqiptar me 40 vite jetë si duhanpirës, harxhon aq te ardhura sa mund te blinte një makine luksoze si Range Rover. Sipas studimit Shqipëria është një nga popujt qe harxhon me shume te ardhura për duhanin. Ekspertet kane vlerësuar se një duhanpirës harxhon 87 milionë leke te vjetra, duke konsumuar duhan për 40 vjet. Edhe një pirës jo shume i rregullt i duhanit harxhon te paktën 31 mije leke ne muaj. Po sipas këtij raporti, një njeri që konsumon rreth 3 paketa në ditë, në vit i duhet të paguaj mbi 2 milionë lekë vetëm për duhanin. Nëse kjo shume do te kursehej, ajo do te mjaftonte për një familje me katër anëtare për te bere pushime 10 ditore ne resorted turke apo edhe ne ato te Egjiptit. Të dhënat tregojnë se për 10 vjet, një duhanpirës që konsumon vetëm gjysmën e paketës, harxhon 3 milion e 62 mijë lekë, ndërsa ai që pi rregullisht duhan dhe konsumon rreth 3 paketa në ditë paguan nga xhepi 21 milionë e 96 mijë leke, ose dy Ford Fiesta te rinj.
