Syrian regime forces captured the Naseeb border crossing with Jordan on July 7 following a surrender by rebels, according to the state-run news agency (SANA).

The regime forces celebrated the recapture of the key trade route that rebels held for more than three years, SANA reported.

Re-capturing the crossing with Jordan paves the way for Syria to reopen a route vital to its hopes of reviving Syria’s economy, Reuters reported.

Reuters cited rebel sources in south Syria on July 6 as saying they had agreed to a Russian-backed ceasefire deal which would see them give up arms and surrender in the Daraa province.
