Anti-fascist demonstrators marched through Charlottesville on August 11, to mark the anniversary of violent clashes at the Unite the Right rally in the Virginia city.

Hundreds of students and protesters descended on Charlottesville’s downtown mall and the University of Virginia on Saturday. Violent clashes had erupted last August when far-right activists faced off with anti-fascist groups at the rally over the removal of Confederate statues. The weekend ended in tragedy after a car drove through a crowd of protesters, killing Heather Meyer and injuring dozens on August 12. James Alex Fields Jr will stand trial for first-degree murder and hate crime charges in November.

A small group of people were seen gathered in downtown mall to pay tribute to Meyer. A major demonstration and march was later seen at the university, with protesters heard chanting “No cops. No KKK. No fascist USA.”
