Some 3,000 metro passengers in Paris were stranded on sweltering trains on July 31, some for up to two hours, after a power cut on the city’s central Line 1.
Le Figaro cited police as saying 3,000 people had to be evacuated from the trains after the breakdown at around 8 pm. Traffic on the busy line, heavily used by tourists, did not resume until after 11 pm, the Local said.
The local transport authority, RATP, said some 200 personnel were deployed into tunnels to evacuate passengers.
