I freely spoke your name
couldn't wait to share all I could
seemed like you felt the same
four years ago
an envelope returned
on it words handwritten
still saved by a foolish girl
wanted to refill
a thousand more to give
thought you'd know each one
or at least listen while you drove
a day we've never shared
and probably never will
still think of you every year
pray you don't have to celebrate alone
you never seemed like someone's
another woman's impression can usually be felt
but near you what I could feel
was always something else
I think of you today
just like I did last year
the early sunrise and morning doves
always make you seem near
I truly loved you
the way a lifetime defines
did what your friend said was best to do
and left you behind
