Mayor Tommy Battle qualified for re-election this afternoon at the City Clerk-Treasurer's office. The formality allows Battle's name to be listed on the August 28 ballot.

"This election process is great because it gives us another opportunity to talk about everything we've been able to accomplish over the past three years. I'm looking forward to discussing issues that are important to our community and explaining our plan to keep moving Huntsville forward." Battle said.

The qualification period started today and ends July 17. Qualification allows City Clerk-Treasurer Chuck Hagood, who oversees municipal elections, to list the candidates on the August 28th ballot.

Battle was elected by a margin of over 4300 votes in his 2008 run-off victory over the previous administration.

"Everywhere we go across our community we hear support for a responsible administration. Huntsville city employees work hard everyday to deliver a lean government that our citizens can trust to handle the city's affairs responsibly." Battle said.

Last month Battle announced his plan to keep moving Huntsville forward in seven different areas including Jobs, Economic Development, Fiscal Responsibility, Roads, Public Safety, Education, and Parks and Recreation.

"We've come along way, but there's still more work to be done to keep moving Huntsville forward."
