Views 1

Welcome to the nineteenth episode of the Minutes Mastery series by Triumph through Training Pvt. Ltd. (3T)! In this episode, Rajavee Arora explores one of the most infamous and controversial psychological studies ever conducted: the Stanford Prison Experiment.

In 1971, psychologist Philip Zimbardo transformed the basement of Stanford University into a simulated prison, randomly assigning volunteers to roles as either guards or prisoners. What was planned as a two-week study was abruptly halted after just six days due to the extreme and abusive behavior exhibited by the "guards," which led to severe emotional distress among the "prisoners."

The Stanford Prison Experiment is widely regarded as unethical due to the psychological harm inflicted on the participants. It blurred the line between role-playing and reality, resulting in grave consequences for everyone involved.

So, what can we learn from this today? Rajavee discusses how the experiment underscores the dangers of unchecked power dynamics and the importance of ethical leadership in any organization. It's a powerful reminder that fostering a positive and respectful environment is crucial for the success and well-being of any team.

We acknowledge psychologist Philip Zimbardo and Stanford University for their roles in this historic study.
