पौष का महीना सूर्य देव का महीना माना जाता है. पूर्णिमा की तिथि चन्द्रमा की तिथि होती है. सूर्य और चन्द्रमा का ये अद्भुत संयोग केवल पौष पूर्णिमा को ही मिलता है. इस दिन सूर्य और चन्द्रमा दोनों की उपासना से मनोकामनाएं पूरी होती हैं. इसके अलावा पौष पूर्णिमा पर इन मंत्रों का जाप करना फलदायी माना जाता है।
