Today is the death anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of the country and who gave the slogan 'Jai Kisan, Jai Jawan'. He died on 11 January 1966. Famous for his clean image and virtuous life, Shastri had assumed the office of Prime Minister on June 9, 1964, after the death of the first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

देश के दूसरे प्रधानमंत्री और ‘जय किसान, जय जवान’ का नारा देने वाले लाल बहादुर शास्त्री की आज पुण्यतिथि है. 11 जनवरी 1966 को उनका निधन हो गया था. अपनी साफ सुथरी छवि और सदागीपूर्ण जीवन के प्रसिद्ध शास्त्री ने प्रथम प्रधानमंत्री पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू के निधन के बाद नौ जून 1964 को प्रधानमंत्री का पदभार ग्रहण किया था.
