According to the stories mentioned in the Hindu scriptures, the moon should not be seen on the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhado month. It is said that if you see the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi i.e. on the Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhado, then you will face false accusations, that is, there is a belief of false stigma. According to a legend, once Lord Krishna had seen the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi, he was subjected to a false stigma of stealing the Syamantak gem.

हिंदू धर्म शास्त्रों में वर्णित कथाओं के अनुसार, भादो माह के शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्थी तिथि को चंद्रमा का दर्शन नहीं करना चाहिए. कहा जाता है कि यदि आपने गणेश चतुर्थी को अर्थात भादो के शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्थी तिथि को चांद का दर्शन कर लिया तो आप पर झूठे आरोप लगेंगे अर्थात झूठे कलंक लगने की मान्यता है. एक कथा के अनुसार, एक बार भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने गणेश चतुर्थी को चंद्र दर्शन कर लिया था, तो उन पर स्यामंतक मणि चोरी करने का मिथ्या कलंक लगा था.
