T Natarajan and Washington Sundar were handed their debut caps. Natarajan, who made his debut in the limited-overs leg against Australia, became the 300th player to wear the Indian Test cap while Ravichandran Ashwin handed the Test cap to Washington Sundar. Ravichandran Ashwin was also nursing a sore back while Jasprit Bumrah suffered an abdominal strain.

ऑस्ट्रेलिया के इस दौरे पर भारतीय तेज गेंदबाज टी नटराजन को तीनों ही फॉ़र्मेट में भारत की तरफ से डेब्यू करने का मौका मिला। पहले वनडे फिर टी20 और अब उनको टेस्ट सीरीज में खेलने का मौका मिला है। कमाल की बात यह है कि वह तीनों में से किसी भी फॉर्मेट में टीम में इस दौरे के लिए नहीं चुने गए थे। दूसरे खिलाड़ियों के चोटिल होने की वजह से उनको यह मौका मिला। नटराजन एक ही दौरे पर तीनों फॉर्मेट में डेब्यू करने वाले पहले भारतीय खिलाड़ी बने हैं। इससे पहले किसी भी भारतीय को ऐसा मौका नहीं मिला था।
