The news of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expanding the Indian Premier League (IPL) by adding two more franchises and making it a 10-team league rather than 8 teams have been doing rounds for quite some time now. However, it is understood that the Indian board is not keen on adding two new teams and conducting mega-auctions ahead of IPL 2021. Instead, BCCI will be approving the addition of two new teams for IPL 2022. This means that only 8 teams will feature in the 2021 edition while the Indian board will invite fresh bids for the addition of two more teams post the 14th edition of IPL. A 10-team T20 extravaganza can see the light of day from the 2022 season only.

आईपीएल में मेगा ऑक्शन को लेकर फिलहाल तो कुछ अपडेट नहीं आया है. पर इस अपडेट के न आने की वजह से लग रहा है कि इस बार आईपीएल मेगा ऑक्शन नहीं होगा. कुछ मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स आई है, जहाँ पर मेगा ऑक्शन को लेकर जिक्र किया गया है. कहा ये जा रहा है कि नीलामी होगी पर इस बार मिनी ऑक्शन होगा. छोटी नीलामी जिसे कहते हैं. बड़ी नहीं होगी. ऐसे में दो नयी टीमों को लेकर जो खबरें लगातार आ रही थी. वो अब डब्बे में बंद होने वाला है. हालांकि, इस पर आधिकारिक मुहर 24 दिसंबर को होने वाली बीसीसीआई की एजीएम मीटिंग के बाद ही लगेगी. बीसीसीआई पहले 14वें सीजन में ही मेगा ऑक्‍शन करवाने के मूड में थी. इनसाइड स्‍पोर्ट की खबर के अनुसार बीसीसीआई अधिकारी का कहना है कि हालात को देखते हुए इस बार बड़ा ऑक्‍शन करना संभव नहीं है. ऐसे में फ्रेंचाइजियों के लिए मिनी ऑक्‍शन का आयोजन किया जा सकता है.
