美, 한국에 中화웨이 배제 동참 요청...정부 "민간이 결정할 문제"

The U.S. has asked South Korea to join it in not using products made by the Chinese tech giant Huawei... because of what it sees as security risks.
The South Korean side said it'll work closely with the U.S. on security issues, but it's up to private companies to choose whether or not they use Huawei.
Yoon Jung-min reports.
In bilateral economic talks Wednesday, the U.S. reiterated that it would like South Korea to be part of what it's promoting as a "Clean Network" of countries that don't use products made by Huawei.
South Korea's second vice foreign minister Lee Tae-ho met virtually with Keith Krach, a senior economic official at the U.S. State Department.
The Clean Network aims mainly to keep Chinese tech firms out of 5G infrastructure, citing security concerns.
Seoul said that it will work on the security issue with Washington, but whether or not to use Huawei products is up to private companies.
"Already many companies like Samsung and SK have stopped providing semiconductors to Huawei, and follow the requests and demands, and also possible sanctions by the United States on the Huawei issue."
Sources added that there was no mention of Washington's proposed Economic Prosperity Network, which would be an alliance with what the U.S. sees as its "trusted partners," including South Korea, against the rise of China.
Seoul's foreign ministry said the two sides also discussed ways to bolster the global supply chain after the pandemic and to promote women's involvement in the economy.
Other issues included science and energy, artificial intelligence and quantum computers.
