The Shovel Lake wildfire had burned almost 80,000 of hectares of land in Shovel Lake, British Columbia by Friday, August 17.

The fire was discovered on July 27 and has grown to cover an estimated 79,192 hectares, according to BC Wildfire Service.

Fraser Lake resident David Luggi shared these videos of wildfire smoke filling the sky. He told The Vancouver Sun he was packed and prepared to evacuate his home.

Luggi’s home was reported to be located just outside an evacuation zone. He said he purchased furnace filters in order to enable air flow into his home. Air quality advisories were active for much of British Columbia due to smoky conditions. The Vancouver Sun reported a camp was set up on Fraser Lake’s north for firefighters battling the blaze.
