The sun was shining in the Outer Banks and Tropical Storm Chris was well off the North Carolina coast on Monday, July 9, but many beaches were flying “no swimming” red flags because of the rough surf caused by the storm.

The National Weather Service warned there was a high risk for rip currents because of the storm. The danger for rip currents was expected to last through the week across the east coast. Chris was forecast to stay well off the US coast.
