The National Weather Service reported possible dangerous rip currents and strong longshore currents for beaches in eastern North Carolina on July 9.
Tropical Storm Chris was expected to stay offshore on July 9, with the possibility of becoming a hurricane. The storm is not expected to affect the United States other than rough surf conditions.
