A young girl was spotted nursing an injured leg on a beach in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina after allegedly being attacked by a shark on Monday, July 2.
The victim was taken to hospital for her injuries from near Pier 14 Restaurant and Lounge, local broadcaster WYFF4 reported.
A spokesman for the Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue confirmed she was treated following an “aquatic animal incident” but did not clarify whether she was attacked by a shark, the report said.
Eyewitness Cristy Torres, who was visiting from Rockingham, North Carolina, filmed this video of a lifeguard tending to the girl’s bandaged leg in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
Sharing the video on Facebook, she wrote: "This happened July 2nd 2018 as families were enjoying a nice swim. A young girl got bit by a shark, her family yelling for help as her family took her out the water, the shark took a hold of her leg.
“She seemed to be calm; she was so brave. This was in the section between the skyline wheel and the pier swimming area. Be careful going swimming; watch your kids with much care as possible this was in shallow water. I never thought anyone would actually get attacked with all the warnings of Myrtle beach sharks, but things can really happen SO please BE CAREFUL!” Credit: Cristy Torres via Storyful
