A flash flood emergency was issued for Ellicott City, Maryland, as water rushed down the city’s main street on Sunday, May 27. Multiple water rescues had been reported, the National Weather Service said.
Videos from the city showed cars washing down the road. Nearly an hour after the first alert was issued, officials said the water was receding, but people were warned to stay away from the area.
The city suffered similar flash flooding in August 2016 that devastated the downtown area.
