Plumber Terry Barrell became an Australian citizen during a ceremony held at the Davis research station in the Australian Antarctic Territory on Thursday, January 25, the eve of Australia Day.
Barrell had been employed at the station since November 2017. “I was granted my citizenship while going through my pre-departure training in Hobart, and was hoping to become an Australian citizen before I left for Antarctica," he said, "but there wasn’t time to arrange a ceremony before the ship left.”
