Passengers on a flight from Austin, Texas, to Newark, New Jersey, on Sunday, January 14, watched as a couple appeared to get married on board.
This video captured by Southwest airline passenger Sam Acuna shows the moment the happy couple apparently tied the knot. Sharing the video on Twitter, she wrote: “Fun story: someone on our plane got married mid-flight. It was exciting.”
Passengers can be heard clapping and cheering after a flight attendant indicates the couple have married. Storyful has contacted Soutwest airlines for clarification over whether the ceremony is legally binding.
Acuna said the airline staff even made props for the newlyweds. Speaking to Storyful, he said: “They were just a very happy couple. The Southwest crew made a bouquet for the woman, although I’m not sure what it was made of, and a crown made of full peanut bags for the gentleman.”
Southwest Airlines has previously arranged unofficial wedding ceremonies on its flights. In August last year, a newlywed couple from Texas made headlines after posing for a wedding ceremony on a flight to Mexico for their honeymoon. Credit: Sam Acuna via Storyful
