Firefighters used lifeboats to rescue people stranded by freezing floodwaters in Boston, Massachusetts, on Thursday, January 4.

This video taken by onlooker Joseph Hollow shows a person being pulled in a rubber boat on frozen State Street. Sharing two videos of the rescue on Instagram, he wrote: “Just a typical water rescue… Boston is flooding, and the BPD (Boston Police Department) and BFD (Boston Fire Department) are doing their jobs.”

Boston was among the towns in the northeast hit by a storm dubbed “bomb cyclone” due to its ability to suddently lower atmospheric pressure, according to The New York Times. The storm brought blizzard conditions and coastal flooding to the region. Credit: Instagram/joseph_hollow via Storyful
