A vegetation fire that ignited late Thursday evening, July 12, near Chico, California, quickly grew to 700 acres on Friday afternoon, July 13.

The fire, dubbed the Stoney Fire, was burning in Upper Bidwell Park near Highway 32, according to reports from KRON 4.

On late Friday afternoon, July 13, the fire was 40 percent contained, the Cal Fire Butte County unit said, citing a “significant augmentation of resources”.

The fire had prompted evacuation orders for residents between Shadybrook Lane and Canyon Oaks Terrace and closed Highway 32, but by late Friday morning, the evacuation orders were lifted and the highway was reopened.
