Detainees at a refugee processing centre on Manus Island alleged Papua New Guinea authorities used a metal pole to beat some refugees as they forced them to relocate to a new facility on Friday, November 24.

“How can you use force against unarmed Syrians? You should be ashamed for your acts,” uploader Ghulam Mustafa said in a video published Friday, addressing Immigration Minister Peter Dutton. In the footage, a man holds up his arm to reveal injuries he said were inflicted by local authorities.

Refugees remaining at the closed detention centre were earlier forced out by police and moved to a new facility, SBS reported. The new centre cost the Australian government $30 million and was completed in early November, according to The Australian.

Mustafa, a refugee from Pakistan, told Storyful he was now living at one of three facilities within the new centre, West Lorengau Haus. Credit: Facebook/Ghulam Mustafa via Storyful
