Dinosaur suit-wearing protesters descended on Washington on August 30 to protest President Donald Trump’s plan to slash the budget for national service programs.
About 100 dinosaurs – or rather, people dressed in dinosaur outfits – attended the #DinosinDC event, USA Today reported. This footage shows the dinosaurs holding up protest signs and dashing across the west lawn of Capitol Hill.
#DinosInDC was organized by Service Year Alliance, a non-profit organization that encourages young Americans to spend a year serving their communities. The event was designed to “stop national service extinction” and speak out against President Trump’s 2018 budget cuts on organizations like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps.
“While dinosaurs are fun, national service extinction is a serious matter,” Service Year Alliance spokeswoman Aly Ferguson told USA Today, referencing the AmeriCorps members currently assisting in Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. “If the president’s budget becomes reality, these people would not be there helping during this natural disaster."
