Lloyd Cotsen was in Zuma Beach in Malibu, California when he inadvertently filmed a quite extraordinary mountain collapse at Point Dume that extended into an adjacent parking lot. No injuries were reported from the March 25 incident.
Lloyd, who had actually intended to film whales that day, described the scene to Storyful:
“I was just waiting with my friends who were loading up their paddle boards and noticed the “dirt waterfall”. So, I turned my camera on it just while I was talking to my friends. If they had left sooner, I would have missed it."
Nicole Mooradian of the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors, which owns and manages the parking lot adjacent to where the slope failure occurred, told Storyful that, “after the slope failed, we closed a portion of the parking lot to ensure the safety of our beach patrons. We have since reopened the parking lot.” Credit: Lloyd Eric Cotsen via Storyful
