Drone footage captured humpback whales and sea lions lunge feeding in Monterey Bay, California, on August 5. The stunning footage was recorded by the crew of Monterey Bay Whale Watch.
Nancy Black, who operates Monterey Bay Whale Watch, told Storyful she and her crew followed 14 humpback whales and about 400 California sea lions as they fed on schools of anchovies.
The crew watched as the whales worked in groups of two to eight to encircle the fish before feeding on them, according to Black. “Each whale eats 1-2 tons of fish per day,” said Black. “Today was a multi-species feeding frenzy with whales, sea lions, and seabirds all feeding together on millions of anchovies just two miles from Monterey Harbor.” Credit: Monterey Bay Whale Watch via Storyful
