Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan was among the voters on Sunday, April 2, in the first election since changes to the country’s constitution moved it to parliamentary system. Sargsyan will be Armenia’s last president elected in a national vote.

Exit polls showed the conservative Republican Party of Armenia leading the vote with 46 percent.

Sargsyan’s second term as president ends next year, and the new parliament will select the new president, who will become a ceremonial head-of-state with the single-body parliament as the main authority.

Armenian voters approved the changes in a referendum in December 2015.
