Punjab, Oct 28: Punjab elections are around the corner and the detractors of democracy are up in arms to create trouble in the state which has faced years of militancy in the 1970s and 1980s. The Khalistan separatists, who enjoy the backing of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, are reportedly planning to create trouble and disrupt the election process. Since the Indian Army carried out a surgical strike in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), the efforts to create instability in bordering Punjab by Pakistan has intensified. Experts warn that radicals, who have raked the Khalistan issue in the past elections, will bring forth the issue again. The separatist movement in Punjab is all but dead. The state has been prospering and there are hardly any takers to Khalistanis unreasonable demand of a separate Sikh state.
