Punjab / Delhi, Sep 01: India recently removed names of 225 Sikhs from a blacklist, barring them from travelling to the country due to their alleged ties with Khalistan movement of the 80s and 90s in Punjab. A large number of Sikhs migrated abroad during the insurgency in Punjab. Many of them included those who followed Khalistani ideology and raised the demand of a separate state for the Sikhs. The chief of All India Anti-Terrorist Front, M.S Bitta, welcomes the step taken by the government, but also emphasized the need to keep a tight vigil on those involved in anti-India activities. A large number of Khalistan separatists who are living abroad are backed by Pakistan and its spy agency, the ISI. Islamabad still has designs to create disturbance in Punjab. The militancy in the late 1980s and 90s in Punjab killed thousands of innocent people and destroyed property worth millions of rupees. But people in Punjab rejected the demand for Khalistan and are now living a peaceful and prosperous life.
