Punjab, May 13: Fresno in California... The moment former Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh concluded his meeting with non-resident Indians, he faced a protest by pro-Khalistan separatists outside the venue.... They shouted pro-Khalistan slogans and hurled objects at his vehicle. The protest, allegedly supported by Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence has been strongly condemned by politicians back home. Several pro-Khalistan organizations are still based in the United States, Canada and other western countries. They enjoy the patronage of Pakistan's ISI and continue to pursue their so-called "Sikh Agenda" clandestinely. In the 1980s and early 1990s, Punjab was hit by a Pakistan sponsored separatist insurgency. It claimed some 12,000 lives and affected the state's development. However, peace returned to Punjab as people rejected the demand for Khalistan. Today, the state is prospering.
