Situata ne veri te Kosovës, ka vene ne levizje shqiptaret e Luginës se Preshevës, te cilet kane nisur protestat, per te kërkuar ndryshimin e situatës ekonomike, arsimore dhe ate ne shëndetësi.
Kjo eshte komuna e Preshevës, ne Serbinë jugore, te cilen shqiptaret preferojnë ta quajnë Kosova lindore, ku bëjnë pjese edhe komuna e Bojanovcit dhe ajo e Medvegjes. Ndryshe nga komunat e lartpërmendura te cilat përbehen nga shqiptare dhe serbe si dhe komunitete te tjera, ne komunën e Preshevës jetojnë 50 mije banore nga te cilet 95 % jane shqiptare. Situata ekonomike ne kete komune po veshtiresohet çdo dite e me shume. 70 % e banoreve jane te papune, ndërkohë qe pjesa tjeter te favorizuar edhe nga liberalizimi i vizave per Serbine, punojne përkohësisht jashte vendit. Partite politike te Lugines se Presheves kërkojnë përfshirjen e çështjes se Lugines ne bisedimet mes Prishtinës dhe Beogradit. Hapi i pare u be me marrëveshjen e nënshkruar per njohjen e diplomave, dhe ajo vetem formalisht, pasi ne praktike asgje nuk ka ndryshuar. Deputeti i vetem shqiptar ne parlamentin e Serbise Riza Halimi kerkon nga ndërkombëtaret te kthejne syte edhe nga shqiptaret e Lugines se Preshevës. Kryetari i Komunes se Presheves Ragmi Mustafa paralajmëron se shqiptaret nuk do te ndalen me kaq. Protestat e tyre ndonese nuk do te jene ne formen e barrikadave si ato te serbeve ne veri, do te intensifikohen derisa ti jepen zgjidhje çështjes shqiptare ne Lugine. Per te zgjidhur problemet e shqiptareve ne Luginen e Presheves, qeveria e Serbise ne bashkepunim me ndërkombëtaret formoi ne vitin 2001 trupin koordinues. Edhe pse kane kaluar 10 vjet situata per shqiptaret mbetet e njejte, jane te papune, nuk u njihen diplomat e Kosoves, dhe nuk u lejohet përdorimi i simboleve kombëtare. Ne shëndetësi situata duket edhe me e veshtire pasi ne tre komunat me shqiptare Presheve, Bujanovc dhe Medvegje nuk ka as maternitet. Analisti nga Presheva, Belgzim Kamberi thote se vonesa e zgjidhjes ka ardhur edhe per shkak te fragmentarizmit te spektrit politik shqiptar.

The situation in northern Kosovo, has set in motion the Presevo Valley Albanians, who have launched protests, seeking to change the economic situation, education and in health.
This is the municipality of Presevo, southern Serbia, the Albanians prefer to call eastern Kosovo, which includes the municipality and it Bojanovcit Medvedja.
