NHL Stanley Cup review. Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of NHL Stanley Cup for the Super NES developed by Sculptured Software and published by Nintendo.
Not all sports games that tried incorporating Mode 7 technology on the Super NES were successful—see Konami’s NFL Football. But some fared a bit better, and NHL Stanley Cup is one of them. This is a fast-paced experience that gave a slight peak into the future of hockey video games. Played from an on-ice perspective, the game uses Mode 7 for a behind-the-back camera angle. It can be dizzying, for sure, but it’s also kind of fun. That is, once your stomach settles. Play individual games or a full season with the entire National Hockey League, even the newly expanded Florida Panthers and Anaheim Ducks. Back then, they were mighty. NHL Stanley Cup is a single-player and local multiplayer game.
