North Korea has a policy stating that the only person allowed to be called Kim Jong-un is the country’s supreme leader.

Parents are prohibited from giving the name to their babies, and anybody who already has it must find a new one.

The move isn’t unprecedented. In fact, it’s a bit of a family tradition.

Kim Jong-un’s father, Kim Jong Il, had exclusive rights to his name, as did his father before him.

The most recent declaration of sole ownership reportedly occurred in early 2011, but was recently made public via a South Korean television broadcaster.

It was reported by KBS that an internal North Korean document had surfaced and in it both security agencies and higher-ups from the Workers’ Party were instructed to make sure there were no other Kim Jong-un’s in the land.

In the event that any were found, the functionaries were to follow up until the wrong was made right.

An anonymous South Korean official confirmed the existence of the edict saying, “It’s true that in North Korea, they now allow only one Jong-un.”
