If you could just have seen yourself through my eyes
And hence known what I felt to be genuine,
Would you ever have let me out of your sight?
The mere presence of you, then, made me unwise.
But I’m sure you could have come to comprehend,
If you could just have seen yourself through my eyes?
If you’d come to know me like I wished you might:
In me… All that you sparked inside! Truly Then,
Would you ever have let me out of your sight?
You, and only you, could have claimed such a prize…
Would you have let your soul feel, not apprehend,
If you could just have seen yourself through my eyes?
Should you’ve known of this then - and still know you might -
Of this wealth that you owned when you held my hand,
Would you ever have let me out of your sight?
Until you believe, seeing beyond the lies,
I’ll ask once more, waiting you assert your right:
If you could just now see yourself through my eyes…
Would you not, forever, keep me in your sight?
