Ra shines over the eastern horizon,
a shower of gold covers his domain;
all living things rise to greet the Sun,
then take their leave, except for one:
Tall, draped in green,
dark of face, sporting
a tidy ruff, golden,
head lifted to the Sun.
Ra travels across the sky,
that one never looks away,
locked in loving adoration,
inviting Ra’s admiration.
Ra is pleased with his devotee,
gives it a name fit for royalty,
adopts it as his own flower,
gives it his name, Sunflower.
