Robert Edgar Burns - Passing Ships

We are just like two ships,
That are passing in the night.
On turbulent storm tossed seas.
Desperately reaching for the other,
Joining forces, strength in numbers.

Each time we reach for the ropes
Attached to each other’s anchor,
A giant wave slaps us aft.
Causing us much rancor!
Apart from each other and,
The safety of each other’s arms.

Through tears of separation,
We determine to hang on to hope.
Nearly drowning beneath powerful waves,
Our feet hit bottom, with the strength of love
We push against firm ground and once
We stand upright, and reach out toward love.

Just short of our exhaustion,
Our fingers finally clasp.
New energy surges through us,
We won’t let go of our grasp!
These bonds will never be broken.
No storm from this point onward,
Shall ever have it’s way with us.

Our lifesaver is love,
It was ordained from above.
It’s the anchor that steadies
All Life!
