A Florida-based company has proposed building a floating city with its own airport, casino and shopping center on a giant ship, at an estimated cost of US$10 billion.

The Freedom Ship would be 107 m in height, 230 m in width and 1,400 m in length. Once completed, it would be more than three times longer than the Queen Mary II cruise ship.

The ship would have be able to house 50,000 permanent residents. It would also have room for 30,000 daily visitors, 20,000 crew and 10,000 overnight guests.

The ship would be equipped with a school, a hospital, a shopping center, casino and an airport. Visitors and residents would be able to leave the ship either by plane or by boat docked at the rear of the ship.

The Freedom Ship would sail around the world continuously, doing a full circuit every two years. Its planned route would begin from the east coast of the U.S., take it across the Atlantic to Europe, then continue on around Africa and over to Australia and Asia, before returning to the U.S.
