Three large cranes have arrived at the site of the sunken South Korean ferry as the search continues for 270 missing passengers. Rescuers are cautious about using heavy machinery as lifting the vessel could harm any survivors trapped inside.

As the rescue mission turns into a salvage operation, maritime experts say it could take as long as two months to bring the capsized vessel to the surface.

Meanwhile, back on land, Kang Min-gyu, the vice principal of the school that had 325 students on the ferry, has committed suicide. He appears to have hanged himself with his belt from a tree outside a gym in the port city of Jindo, where relatives of the people missing on the ship were gathered.
