At least eleven were killed in a car bomb attack targeting Somali security personnel near its intelligence headquarters in Mogadishu on Thursday (February 28).
The attack targeted a tea shop frequented by national security personnel in Mogadishu. A white minivan packed with explosives swerved into the outdoor seating area of the cafe and blew up. The explosion killed 11 people and injured 15 others.
Al-Shabab, a rebel group in Somalia, claimed responsibility for the attack.
"Today's blast was part of our operations in Mogadishu and we shall continue," Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, Al-Shabab's military operations spokesman told AFP.
The bombing comes after another Al-Shabab attack at the presidential palace where 12 people, including two government officials and seven militants, were killed. The al-Qaeda-linked group has been behind a series of attacks launched on the country's capital.
The group has been ousted from Mogadishu, but it maintains its hold on towns in the countryside.
