Banknote scam: Japanese high school students arrested for attempted fraud

Views 1

Two high school students in Osaka, Japan, were arrested on Monday for trying to pass off a fake 1 million yen note to an elderly shopkeeper.

They have been charged with fraud after they asked a 76-year-old shopkeeper at a local tobacconist to exchange a fake 1 million yen note for 10 real 10,000 yen notes.

Despite his poor eyesight, the shopkeeper noticed that the bill resembled board game money and quickly contacted police once the pair left the shop. The youngsters were picked up by police a short time later.

The pair admitted to the crime, saying they had expected the shopkeeper to fall for their scam.
