Five rangers providing security for teachers were injured Tuesday after a homemade bomb exploded in the south of Thailand. According to the Bangkok Post, the bomb exploded on a rural road in Pattani province's Yaring district at around 7:30 a.m.
Seven rangers were patrolling the road on foot, when a 5 kg homemade bomb planted under a roadside tree exploded.
Five of the rangers were injured and transported to Yaring hospital. The Bangkok Post said they were identified as Puvanart Promkachorn, Apichart Thuengkaew, Sombat Joomho, Mazanuzi Ngorlae and Uthit Jitsaen. After the blast, police and a bomb disposal unit found a 40 cm-wide and 30 cm-deep crater at the scene. According to the Bangkok Post, police have blamed separatist militants for the attack.
