A police inspector was injured in Malaysia on Tuesday while trying to stop a jewellery shop heist. At around 4:15 p.m., two armed robbers wearing helmets and jackets entered a jewellery shop at Pekan Kuala Sungai, according to the Star. One of them pointed a gun at the clerk and told her to crouch down and stay quiet.

Inspector Zuwairi Ramli passed by the scene in a convoy of three cars. When he realized something wrong was happening at the shop, he raised his right hand as a warning sign, the Star reported. The robbers responded by shooting him in the hand. They then escaped on a motorbike, and hijacked a car shortly after. Zuwairi was helped by the shop owner's daughter who gave him a piece of cloth to wrap around his hand. He was then rushed to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital by her father. The inspector suffered injuries to his right palm. According to the shop owner, the losses were estimated to be more than RM10,000, the Star reported.
