ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
STORY: Giant waves crashed against China's east coast on Sunday as Typhoon Fitow approached, state media reported.
Spray shot up more than 20 meters high as waves slammed into rocks and the sea wall in Wenling in Zhejiang province, official broadcaster CCTV showed.
Fitow is expected to bring high winds and rain when it breaks between Sunday night and Monday morning local time, state media reported.
China has issued a red alert, the highest in its weather warning system.
