ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION

Super-typhoon Neoguri was headed for Japan on Monday.

The so-called "once-in-decades" storm was packing winds of up to 150 miles per hour as it neared the southern Okinawa island chain and the Japan Meteorlogical Agency said it could pick up more power as it moves north,

Fishermen were securing their boats under cloudy skies in the port in Naha City in Okinawa Prefecture.

The storm is expected to hit that area with heavy rain and powerful winds before making landfall on the western island of Kyushi.

It was not expected to be as strong as Typhoon Haiyan which killed thousands in the Philippines last year, but officials in Japan still were warning people in its path to evacuate early and take precautions.
