Malaysian police say they have obtained still photos from closed-circuit television camera footage that will help identify the suspect who fatally gunned down Hussain Ahmad Najadi, the former Arab-Malaysia Development Bank managing director, at a car park in Kuala Lumpur.
Authorities believe the assassination may have been related to disputes regarding real estate deals, and have taken statements from at least seven people who witnessed the incident. One witness is a man who had just met 75-year-old Hussain before he was killed.
Hussain was leaving the Lorong Ceylon Kuan Yin Chinese temple with his wife Monday afternoon, according to Malaysia's The Star, and had entered an outdoor car park. There police say a witnessed saw a man wearing a helmet approach the couple from behind and fire several rounds at them.
The suspect was then seen entering a waiting taxi that had a fake registration number and fleeing the scene with accomplices.
Gunshot struck Hussain in the ribs, chest and abdomen, killing him at the scene. His wife, Cheong Mei Kuen, sustained injuries to her left wrist and right thigh, but survived.
Hussain was the first managing director and chief executive officer of Arab-Malaysian Development Bank.
The New Straits Times reported that a family member said the victim was involved in a long-standing dispute over a piece of land.
Hussain was buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery last night.
His wife, who was released from hospital for the burial, said Hussain was one of the most optimistic and loving man she had ever met in her life, according to The New Straits Times.
