Mahendra Singh Negi is Witness of Uttarakhand flood disaster.
He Says " My name is Mahendra Singh Negi. I'm from Vijay Nagar, Agastyamuni. Right now I'm standing at the same place where I owned a house. You can see the flow of River Mandakini to my right. I owned the house on the banks of the river and had seven shops at the front and my residence was behind my shops. On 16th of June when flood came to our town, our entire town got washed away. You can see that area; there was a temple and residential area next to the temple. There were 100 -- 150 houses but all the houses got washed away in the flood. We didn't get the time to save anything.... We couldn't save anything. My car was standing there but I couldn't save my car. I couldn't save any jewelry or other valuables. At that time we only wanted to save our life that's why we left everything here and went up the slope. We have seen a dangerous form of the river on that day. You can see the banks of river; the river was 100 -- 150 meters down earlier. Suddenly it rose and filled with debris. Today the water level is very high. Earlier it was much lower. The water level is so high today; it seems that it has been flowing like this for years. But it was very much lower earlier.The water level was much higher on that day. You can see the house above, the water level was up to the house which got destroyed on that day. The river destroyed that area. Around 100 -- 150 houses got washed away. There was a hanging bridge. You can see the broken end of the bridge over the river, another end of the bridge was here only but it got washed away with the flood. The entire hanging bridge got submerged in water. On that night when hanging bridge was breaking down, it was producing a sound like short-circuiting on a high-tension wire. There was a colony here. This is the place where I had my house. There was big colony...... here, where the river is flowing right now but everything got submerged in water".
