Baghdad residents clean up what remains of their homes and businesses.

Three people are dead after a car bomb hit a popular market area and a bus station in the al-Mashtal district of the Iraqi capital.

Attacks on Shi'ite neighbourhoods in Baghdad and northern Iraq killed more than 35 people and wounded dozens more Wednesday.

In Baghdad's Sadr City a car bomb went off near a bus station, killing six people and wounding 19 others, while a second car bomb went off near a falafel kiosk.

Another blast went off metres away from a restaurant in eastern Baghdad, wounding four.

Although violence is below the height of sectarian slaughter in 2006-7, when tens of thousands were killed, Sunni Islamist insurgents continue to carry out almost daily attacks to undermine the Shi'ite-led government.
