Argentine residents unhappy with rescue efforts after deadly floods

Buenos Aires Governor Daniel Scoli was jeered by residents of La Plata Thursday, after he came to see the devastation left by flash floods that killed at least 49 people and forced more than 1,000 residents from their homes.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE RESIDENT YELLING AT OFFICIALS, SAYING:

"They show up now. Mr. Governor shows up now, after they evacuated all of us, after we almost drowned. They can all go to hell. We lost everything!"

The Argentine Red Cross has set up emergency centers, but many here have lost everything in the downpour and want more meaningful help.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) FLOOD VICTIM, ANTONIO LO FIEGO, SAYING:

"We didn't receive any assistance. The only thing there is, is the San Martin Club where the Red Cross is and where we put our names down to see if at the very least they can give us a mattress."
