FAO Hails Venezuelan, Argentine Efforts to Erradicate Hunger

Venezuela and Argentine were among the 72 countries recognized by the UN's Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) for their efforts to eradicate hunger. At the FAO's biannual meeting held in Rome, Venezuelan Vice President Jorge Arreaza explained the gains achieved in reducing hunger and poverty under the Bolivarian Revolution through a more equitable distribution of resources. The Venezuelan government earmarks 62% of budget spending on social investment. In addressing the FAO meeting, Argentine President Cristina Hernandez explained the disastrous results the application of budget cutbacks and debt accrual, as are currently being implemented in Europe, had on the country in the early 2000s.
