Two years after the devastating earthquake on February 22 , 2011, the city of Christchurch in New Zealand marked the event with a memorial for the 185 people killed.
At a ceremony on Friday (February 22) in a park that became a makeshift triage centre two years ago, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, addressed survivors, and the friends and relatives of the victims.
"Christchurch did not deserve these earthquakes, Christchurch did not ask for them, but having endured them, Canterburians are seizing the chance to build the best city they can on this site," Key said at the ceremony.
